Emma Jean Beres

Ms. Emma Jean Beres, 89, of North Hollywood, CA passed away on March 8, 2025, at UNC Health Johnston Hospital. She was born on July 20, 1935, to the late Alex J. Beres and Ethel Sirbek. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by husband Jay Howard Gettleman.

Emma grew up in Gary Indiana on her family farm. She moved to Hollywood California on a scholarship to attend Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Emma met her husband at his museum in Los Angeles and had their son Marc. She later perfected her writing skills and wrote several scripts. Emma published her own children’s stories and some of her poems are still available on audio books.

She is survived by her son Marc Gettleman and wife Darlene; grandchildren Yvonne LeBrun, Michael Cartee, Kevin Cartee, Joey Cartee, Marc Gettleman II, Kristin Gettleman, and Victoria Gettleman; great grandchildren Joseph Cartee, Justin Cartee, Sean Cartee, Cayden Cartee, Haydan Gettleman, and Aiyana Gettleman; sister Julia Beres; and brother Jonathan Beres.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, at the funeral home.
