Eleanor Aiken Howard

Mrs. Eleanor Aiken Howard went home to Jesus on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at age 93.  A funeral service will be held at Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Friday, February 3, 2023 beginning at 1:00 PM, with Reverend Ben Pearce officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 PM and other times at her home. Burial will follow the service at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens.  

Eleanor was born to Allan Adams Aiken and Mary Lawrence Puckett Aiken on April 16, 1929 in Fuquay Springs NC.  As a child she excelled in school and on the piano.  She was a graduate of Fuquay Springs High School and Peace College.

Throughout her life Eleanor held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.  She spent many years as a Sunday School teacher for all ages at Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church and was a steadfast prayer warrior.

Eleanor married J.E. Howard, Jr. and they had four children.  In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife and mother, Eleanor loved gardening and entertaining.  Being a mother and grandmother was one of the most important parts of her life, a role that gave her much pride and joy.  The family will always remember Monday night dinners and annual trips to the beach. She was always there for her family, her church family and her community.

Eleanor joins her parents Allan and Mary Aiken, her husband J.E. Howard and her daughter Eleanor Elizabeth Howard in Heaven.  She also joins her brother Moorefield Puckett, sister-in-law, Hazel Puckett and beloved niece Miranda Roberts and nephew, Al Johnson.

She is survived by her children Jay Howard (Dolores), Mark Howard (Margaret), Harriet Vinay (Robert) and her grandchildren Georgia Howard, Courtney McLamb, Jesse Howard, Elizabeth Martin (Jess), Allan Howard (Lauren), Nolen Vinay and Kathryn Vinay.  She was also a proud great grandmother to Currin, Braelyn, Micah, Moriah, Wells, Cora, Mark Allan and Turner.  She is also survived by her nephews Daniel Puckett, Bill Puckett, Fred Austin and William Johnson.
