Edgar "Eddie" T. Smith, Jr.

Mr. Edgar “Eddie” T. Smith, Jr., 74, of Lillington passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family and welcomed into the arms of Jesus. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Edgar T. Smith, Sr. and Marie Jackson Smith.

Eddie Smith was a lifelong farmer, devoted to raising tobacco and small grains, and the proud owner of Smith Farm Services. Farming wasn’t just his occupation—it was who he was. He took immense pride in his work, his land, and the farming community he loved.

He cherished his time outdoors, especially running hunting dogs with family and friends. Those days—filled with laughter, good stories, and the thrill of the hunt—were among his happiest.

Eddie was also an avid sports fan, but his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren play. Whether on the ballfield or in the yard, he was always there—smiling, proud, and cheering them on every step of the way.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Debbie Taylor Smith of the home; 2 sons, Jay Smith and wife Melissa and Jamie Smith and wife Brooke both of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Nicole Murchison and husband Tyler of Lillington; 6 grandchildren “his babies”, Taylor Smith, Henry Smith, Colby Murchison, Grant Murchison, Rhett Murchison and Lennon Smith; sister, Janice Smith of Lillington, brother, Jeffrey Smith of Lillington; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Lillington Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jenny Lee officiating. A private burial will be held at Westview Cemetery in Lillington.
