Doris Evelene (Haire) Murray

Doris Evelene Haire Murray, 87, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Lillington, NC. 

Doris was born May 10, 1938 in Harnett County, NC to the late Thomas Henry and Generah Lee Smith Haire.  In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, William “Bill” Roland Murray; daughter, Jenny Lynn Holmes; and sister, Sadie Lynch as well as 11 other siblings.

She is survived by her son, Randy Edward Holmes (Cathy); grandchildren, Tenille Naumann (Tracy), Brad Edward Gregory (Jessica), Brent Elliott Gregory; great-grandchildren, T.J. Naumann, Hayley Naumann, Kayla Naumann, Nathan Edward Gregory, Logan Ray Gregory; great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Jasper James (“JJ”); and sister, Madge Brown McBride (Mickey).

Doris enjoyed shopping (any chance she got) and spending time with her family/grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She loved crossword puzzles and her soap-operas.  The family has fond memories of her fishing off the bridge in Manteo, NC.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Monday, June 9, 2025 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 1310 S. Main St., Lillington, NC.  Burial will follow the service at Harnett Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 11 am – 12:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
