Donna Jean Clayton Obituary

Donna Jean Clayton, 68, of Lillington, North Carolina, passed away on May 6, 2026, at her home. She was born on December 23, 1957, in Lee County to the late Henry Bernard Clayton Jr. and Norma Jean Patterson Clayton.

Donna will be remembered for the steady love she poured into the people and animals around her. Whether she was tending to her plants and flowers, caring for someone in need, or simply enjoying the quiet of home, she found joy in life’s simple moments and made others feel welcome in her presence.

She is survived at home by her loving husband of 15 years, Darrell May, and her fur babies. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Jennifer (Bryan) Stone; granddaughter, Lainey; brothers, Larry (Elaine) Clayton, Duane (Kathy) Clayton, and Darrell (Barbara) Clayton; sister, Phyllis (Roger) Tankersley; and many nieces and nephews.

Donna enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. She loved spending time outside with her plants, finding peace and fulfillment as she nurtured flowers and watched them bloom. Her garden was a reflection of her gentle spirit, as she patiently tended to each plant and found joy in every new bud and blossom. Whether soaking up the warmth of the sun, digging in the soil, or admiring the vibrant colors around her, Donna’s love for gardening brought beauty and tranquility to her days.

Donna cherished her beloved pets and found immense joy in the companionship of her two devoted dogs and three affectionate cats. She cared for each of them with unwavering love and tenderness, making sure they felt safe, happy, and treasured as members of her family. Whether watching her dogs play in the yard or curling up with her cats for quiet moments indoors, Donna’s gentle presence brought comfort and warmth to her furry friends, who held a special place in her heart.

After dedicating 36 years to Moen, Donna retired with a legacy of hard work, reliability, and countless friendships built along the way. Retirement did not slow her down; she continued to share her caring spirit by working part-time in elderly care, offering her time and compassion to those who needed it most. Donna treasured the bonds she formed with her colleagues over the years and remained a beloved presence in their lives—often gathering with them to reminisce, share laughter, and celebrate the connections that stood the test of time. Her commitment to both her work and her friendships was a testament to the devotion she showed in every aspect of her life.

She was known for her tenacity and grit—strength she carried with her throughout life. Donna met challenges head-on, worked hard for the people she loved, and showed up with quiet determination day after day. Those who knew her best will also remember her straightforward spirit, her loyalty, and the way she cared deeply in her own steady, consistent way.

Above all, Donna treasured time with her family and the companionship of her beloved pets. Her memory will be carried forward in the lives she touched and the love she leaves behind.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., followed by a memorial service at noon at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.
