George Donald O’Quinn, 88, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026. Born on November 26, 1937, he lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Mack O’Quinn and Alice Gill O’Quinn.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Elaine Nordan O’Quinn; his brother, Luther O’Quinn (Linda); his children, Donna O’Quinn and David O’Quinn (Norma); and his cherished grandchildren, Lisa Booth (Tori), Daniel, Laura, and Lacy O’Quinn.
Donald graduated from Boone Trail High School in 1956 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Agriculture from North Carolina State University in 1961, followed by a Master of Agricultural Education degree. He devoted 37 years to education, teaching vocational agriculture at Coats, Lillington, and Boone Trail before serving as principal of Boone Trail High School. He retired in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and mentorship that shaped countless lives.
In his early years, Donald enjoyed traveling with his family, visiting ALL of the United States as well as several countries abroad, creating lasting memories along the way.
A man of strong faith, Donald held the honor of Deacon Emeritus and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher at Antioch Baptist Church. He was a proud and faithful member of the Antioch Baptist Men, where he was honored with the Inspiration Award in recognition of his seasoned wisdom, faithful participation, and leadership by example in serving others in the community and beyond.
Donald’s commitment to service extended deeply into the community through his lifelong involvement with the Boone Trail Ruritan Club. He became a member in 1970 and faithfully served as Secretary for many years. He was awarded Ruritan of the Year on multiple occasions. He was honored with the prestigious Tom Downing Fellow recognition from the Ruritan National Foundation and received numerous other awards throughout his life including Principal of the Year, Outstanding Citizen, and Distinguished Service.
Donald will be remembered as a respected educator, a faithful servant, and a man who quietly helped others in countless ways. His kindness, wisdom, and steady presence made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, at 4:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boone Trail Ruritan Club or Antioch Baptist Men.
