Donald Holloway Obituary

Donald P. Holloway died May 29, 2025. Don was the son of Craig and Edith Holloway formerly of Fuquay-Varina, NC. Visitation with the family is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 6-8pm in the Gathering Space of Saint Francis United Methodist Church, 2965 Kildaire Farm road, Cary, NC 27518.

He graduated from NC State University and pursued employment utilizing his civil engineering degree. His thirty years of governmental service included the NC Department of Transportation and the NC Department of Administration with its Land Records Program. He also was a founding partner of AMCAD, a cadastral mapping consulting firm.

Don served as the President of the North Raleigh Rotary Club, and the Raleigh Engineers Club. He was also a thirty year veteran of the North Carolina National Guard, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. In retirement golf was a favorite and enjoyable pass time.

A life-long Methodist he helped to found St. Francis United Methodist Church in Cary, North Carolina and was a member until his death serving it in many areas, especially in the building, land development, and gardening activities during his 45 years of membership. He was active in the Men of St. Francis annual Christmas Tree Sale, along with the Live Nativity outdoor scene during the holidays. It was his joy to string lights in the fir trees in the church garden during the holiday season. The Holloway Educational Scholarship at the church was a way to encourage and affirm the youth of their congregation.

Surviving are his wife, Mary A. Holloway of 67 years, and his children Donald L. Holloway and his wife Tracey; Michelle H. Woodard and her husband, Lewis. The grandchildren include Elizabeth (James), Paige (Jared), Leigh (Kevin), Anne (Russ), Maia (Bennett). The great grandchildren are Laura, Judah, Joy, Noah, Kevin, Church, Lowry, Luke and Oliver. There are also many nieces and nephews, and cousins. His family includes sisters, Judy Haire of Fuquay and Priscilla Turner of Williamsburg, Virginia; Brother, Craig Holloway, Jr. (deceased) and wife, Charlotte, of Felton, Delaware.

A funeral service will be held 2pm Monday, June 2, 2025 at Saint Francis United Methodist Church, 2965 Kildaire Farm Rd., Cary, NC  27518.  Burial will follow the service at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington, NC.  The family will receive friends 6pm-8pm Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the church.
