Dixie Dean Obituary

Dixie Ann Dean of Fuquay-Varina transitioned from her earthly home to her Heavenly home on Sunday, November 1, 2020.
The daughter of the late Elsie and Philemon Dean, Dixie was born on August 1, 1934. She had resided in the Fuquay-Varina area for all of her life. A nurse by profession, Dixie last worked for the NC Department of Corrections as the nurse for the Correctional Center in Harnett County, where she retired from in 2000. She began her career as a nurse working in the operating room at Mary Elizabeth Hospital and then for Dr. Glenn Judd, Dr. Joe Currin, as well as Charter Northridge Hospital.
Dixie has always been active in her current church, True Light Holiness, as well as several other churches in the area. An accomplished pianist with a wonderful voice, Dixie would often assist other churches services when their pianist would be absent for one reason or another. God truly blessed her with this incredible talent and Dixie enjoyed sharing it with others.
Dixie loved life and enjoyed all facets within it. Whether it be playing the board game, “Aggravation,” working a crossword puzzle or watching a good “western" on television, Dixie never tired of laughing at something funny or being serious when the situation warranted it.
Dixie is survived by a host of family and friends, including her two sisters, Mickie Arnold and Dantzlere Currin (Glenn) of Fuquay-Varina. She was predeceased by her brother, Mark Dean and her brother-in-law O'Shea Arnold, nephew Stewart Arnold, and nephew-in-law J.E. Stephenson.  In addition, left to cherish her memory are nieces Michaela Dawn Baker (J.G.), April Johnson (Brian), Barkley Arnold (Robin), special cousin, Sid Baker, special friend, Carolyn Goddard and several other nephews, nieces, and cousins and friends.
Services for Dixie are entrusted to O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington, NC. They will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 12:00 noon at the funeral home and visitation with the family beginning at 11:00 am. Dixie will be interred at Greenlawn Cemetery in Fuquay-Varina,  NC following the service.
To honor Dixie’s precious memory, memorial contributions may be made to True Light Holiness Church, 5110 Christian Light Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 or Transitions LifeCare, 200 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
Dixie dedicated her life to one of caring for others and being a light for those less fortunate. She often could be heard singing and saying, “To God be the Glory, great things he hath done.”
