Mr. David Ray McLawhorn, born on February 27, 1956, in Pitt County, passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on Sunday, August 4, 2024, as he went to the arms of Jesus.
David spent his early years in the Little Washington community before moving to Linden, NC, where he dedicated 25 years of his life to working at the Goodyear Tire Company. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he was a reliable and diligent employee who took great pride in his work. David was also a passionate union steward for the United Steelworkers Union, where he advocated tirelessly for his colleagues' rights and well-being, earning their respect and admiration.
Throughout his life, David faced numerous challenges, including battling renal failure and other health issues. Despite these hardships, he maintained a positive attitude and resilient spirit, inspiring those around him with his courage and perseverance.
David was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, where he was saved on April 29, 2018. He was a loving father, committed to raising his three children with unwavering dedication to their well-being and happiness. As a grandfather, brother, and friend, he touched many lives with his kindness and generosity.
Outside of his family and work, David had a deep passion for sports. He was an enthusiastic fan of the North Carolina Tarheels, Carolina Panthers, and NASCAR, always cheering for his favorite teams with excitement and joy. His life was a testament to hard work, love, and resilience, leaving a lasting legacy for all who knew him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Carol McLawhorn and Murtie Whisnant Daniels, stepfather Linwood Earl Daniels, and grandson Thaddeus David Burke.
He is survived by his daughter Amanda McLawhorn Burke and her husband Christopher of Broadway, NC; his sons Zachariah McLawhorn and his wife Bridgette of Rolesville, NC, and Ethan McLawhorn of Linden, NC; his brothers Danny T. McLawhorn and his wife Patty of Washington, NC, Kenneth Daniels and his wife Christy of Black Jack, and Tony Lee Daniels and his wife Kimberly of Little Washington, NC; his step-brother Lenny Daniels of Ayden; and his beloved grandchildren, Hannah Taylor, Harper Burke, and Zebulon Burke, who were his pride and joy.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 2 to 3 PM at Antioch Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow, officiated by Dr. Thomas McCuddy, with burial in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
