David Charles Finch, 42, loving son, brother, and friend died on Wednesday May 21, 2025. Born on December 3, 1982, in Pueblo CO, to the late William (Bill) K. Finch (Casper, WY) and the late Debra E. Strickland (Anderson Creek, NC), David was the youngest of three children. His siblings, Shannon and Michelle, were proud big sisters of the new baby boy that completed their little family. Soon after David’s birth David’s mother and father divorced, this moved David with his mother and sisters to Anderson Creek, NC. There David would be adopted and raised by his loving grandparents, late Thad E. and Bettie R. Strickland (Anderson Creek, NC).
As a boy David grew into a talented athlete, student, and artist. David was your typical little boy. He loved playing sports. He was a remarkable baseball, basketball, and football player. He enjoyed playing video games, drawing, playing jokes on his sisters, swimming, water-skiing, knee-boarding, camping, and fishing with his buddies. During any given sports season David could be found in front of the television pulling for his Duke Blue Devils, Chicago Bulls, or the New York Giants - despite tough seasons.
In school David was an exceptionally bright and academically gifted student. He was a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society. He often bragged about his “massive brain” and abilities to mathematically outsmart his sisters.
As an adult, David was quite charming and sweet. He had a kind heart and never passed up the opportunity to help a stranger. At the age of 19 David was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This diagnosis would significantly impact his adult life. Despite this devastating and demanding disease, David was a hard worker. He was a talented tradesman and could do just about anything, but he mastered his profession as a plumber. He was proud of his profession and would often tell those around him how much he enjoyed working and building things for others, especially those he loved.
David was no stranger to life’s battles and demons as he worked daily to fight them, and he strived daily to be a better man. In 2016, he chose to give his heart to his Lord, Jesus Christ. He was soon baptized. David never passed up the opportunity to tell everyone that this was the best decision he ever made.
To know David was to love David. Remember him for his wonderful talents, kind heart, goofy jokes, half-cocked smile, contagious laughter, quick wit, & devout sportsmanship, but most of all please remember David for the immense love he held for his family and friends. David lived with a “Larger Than Life” mentality and would ask that everyone remember him this way.
David is preceded in death by his parents Debra and Bill, his grandparents Thad and Bettie; his sister Shannon F. Sloan (Holly Springs, NC), Niece Tailer M. Strickland (Holly Springs, NC), and parental grandfather Lee Finch (Sun City, AZ).
David is survived by his sister Michelle (Brad) Stroup (Fuquay Varina, NC); Uncles Thad (Nancy) Strickland Jr., Michael Ray Strickland (Anderson Creek, NC), Jimmy (MaryAnne) Strickland (Raeford, NC); Nephews: Bradley K. and Austin R. Stroup (Fuquay Varina, NC); Niece: Shelbie (Hunter) Davis (Fuquay Varina, NC); Life partner and soul mate Jessica Howard Finch (Angier, NC), Bonus sisters Samantha, Kathryn, and Sabrina Finch (Casper, WY), paternal grandmother Bonnie Finch, and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home, 1310 S. Main Street, Lillington, NC 27546. David's request was to not have a funeral service; there will be a celebration of life gathering at his sister's home later in the month.
