Daisy Lasater Obituary

Ms. Daisy Irene Gilchrist Lasater, 87, of Lillington passed away Friday May 15, 2020 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She was born in Mamers, the daughter of the late Chalmers and Mamie Nordan Gilchrist and was the stepdaughter of the late Marvin Ferguson. Daisy graduated from Boone Trail High School and was a member of the cheerleading squad. She worked for over 60 years at local drug stores including Kelly & Randall Drug, Lafayette Drug, McPhail’s Pharmacy and Hogan’s Pharmacy. Daisy knew and loved all her customers by name. She loved working in her flowers, gardening and putting up her own vegetables. Daisy loved cooking and her specialty was fried chicken in her iron “seasoned” skillet, chicken pastry, chicken salad and delicious chocolate pie. She was a lifetime member of Lillington Presbyterian and was awarded the Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership. Daisy was preceded in death by her brother, Bryant Gilchrist and sister, Virginia Sherman.

Daisy is survived by her 2 sons, Barrett Lasater (Deborah) of Greenville, NC, David Lasater (Martha) of Smithfield; 3 grandchildren, Gina Duckett (Ben), Muriel Lasater Sizemore (Michael) and Chandler Lasater; 3 great grandchildren, Jonathan, Ellie and Christopher Duckett; 2 sisters, Rosie Lee Johnson of Lillington and Margaret Smart of Greenville; nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery in Lillington. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance will be limited to the immediate family. A public viewing will be held Sunday morning at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until Noon.
