Clyde Strickland Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Clyde Franklin Strickland, a beloved son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He departed this life peacefully, surrounded by loving family, and holding his beloved wife Connie’s hand, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the age of 86. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication. Born on August 3, 1938 to loving parents, Lee Roy and Verona Strickland in Pahokee, Florida. He was the middle child, having an older sister (Wilma) and younger brother (Kenneth), Clyde grew up with a deep sense of duty, honor and patriotism, values that guided him throughout his life. He enlisted in the Army following high school, and bravely served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, going on to serve honorably for over 26 years; retiring February 28, 1983 at the rank of Sergeant Major (SGM) demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment to protecting the freedoms we cherish. For over 65 years, he was devoted to the love of his life, Connie L. Strickland, with whom he built a beautiful life full of love, laughter, and family. Together, they raised five incredibly loving and successful children, traveling to Europe and across the United States while serving his country; he used these Army moves as opportunities to teach his children the importance of hard work, resilience and love of family. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughters, Cynthia A. Howerton and Catherine G. Dawson, his grandson, Michael T. Green, his parents Troy and Verona Strickland, and his sister Wilma Brooks, known as his “Spiritual Rock.” Though their absence was deeply felt, he carried their memories with him every day. A man of many passions, he loved traveling, exploring new places, and embracing life’s adventures. At home, he found joy in tinkering in his shed and tending to his yard, always keeping busy with projects that brought him fulfillment. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, creating moments that will be treasured forever. He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie L. Strickland, his children, Candice M. Mohler (Gary), Cherie S. Wallace (Mark) and Craig W. Strickland (Paula), his grandchildren Candice M. Seals (Erik), Christy L. Shafer, Chad S. Scott (Matthew), Chrystal D. Davis (Evan), Shelby L. Perry, Meleighe L. Sloss (Ryan), Heather R. Malone (Teddy), Richard F. Strickland (Edith), great-grandchildren Teddy Malone, Ethan Malone, Ryleigh M. Sloss, Cooper E. Sloss, along with countless friends and extended family in Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, California, and Oregon who will miss him dearly. His life will be honored in a service on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10:00AM at Sandhill State Veterans Cemetery Committal Shelter, 8220 Bragg Blvd., Fort Bragg, NC 28310, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the incredible man he was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers, https://dogood.t2t.org/campaign/in-memory-of-clyde-f-strickland/c664163 in remembrance of his service and dedication.
