Mr. Charles “Charlie” T. Lyles, Sr., 86, of Lillington passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. He was born in Spartanburg, SC, the son of the late John W. Lyles, Jr. and Ann Porter Lyles Rankin. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a grandson, Jon Robert Lyles, brother, Ed Mendenhall, & nephew Johnathan Mendenhall.
Charlie passed peacefully surrounded by family. He was a man of faith who loved the Lord. While he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he has gone home to be with his Savior. Charlie also deeply loved his wife, Ann Lyles, who shared every season of life with him.
Charlie was a man of many talents. He was a dedicated banker by profession, admired for his integrity and strong work ethic. After retiring from banking, he pursued his passion for carpentry, where his careful attention to detail and craftsmanship shone through in every project.
Outside of work, he had many passions. He loved animals and showed great compassion in caring for them. He was an avid hunter who cherished time spent in the outdoors and found joy and peace in nature’s beauty.
Known for his stubborn streak, Charlie often insisted on doing things his way—but those who knew him well also knew it usually turned out for the best. His stubbornness, whether in hunting, carpentry, or simply having the last word, was all part of the charm that made him Charlie.
In his later years, he lived with dementia and was lovingly cared for at home by his wife, Ann, until the very end. Now, Charlie is healed, well, and rejoicing in heaven.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ann Page Lyles of the home; 2 sons, Charles Lyles, Jr. (Tina) of Tennessee, John Lyles (Tana) of Warrenton, NC; 2 step-daughters, Jennifer Wood (Brandon) of Willow Spring, and Melissa Tingen of Lillington; 7 grandchildren, Rachel Lyles, Damian Lyles, Dustin Lyles, Travis Lyles, Ryan Wood, Katelyn Wood, and Aiden Blaschak; 7 great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Dorothy Page of Lillington; sister, Lynda Arsenault (Ernie) of Sanford; 2 nieces, Alicia Elmore & Madeline Arsenault; sister-in-law Janet Gay (Butch) of Lanexa, VA.; caregiver, Rosie Graham of Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Pleasant Union Christian Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Dr. Greg Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington.
