Ms. Carolyn O’Quinn Rice, 80, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024. Carolyn was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late William and Lettye Baker O’Quinn. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Bobbie Jean Upchurch, and her brother, William “Bill” O’Quinn.
Carolyn began her work as a federal government employee in the flight transfer department, eventually moving into the Social Security Administration where she worked for 30 years. Carolyn enjoyed watching any type of British television and forcing her children to watch it with her (something they will only now admit to loving) and listening to country music at concerts and especially at the Grand Ole Opry where she had the chance to meet Bill Monroe one of her heroes. Carolyn was a lifetime member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church where her greatest love was singing in the choir. She wholeheartedly believed in giving back the love of Christ through service to her church and community.
Carolyn is survived by her son, John Rice and wife Dale of Sanford; daughter, Heather Stull and husband John of Lillington; 3 grandchildren, Josh Bradford and wife Amanda, Emily Hilton, and Jac Stull; 5 great-grandchildren, Kenley Bradford, Autry Bradford, Addison Bradford, Bailey Hilton, and Michael Hilton; sister, Dorothy Morrison of Lillington; and many special nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom she cherished. One of her favorite things was to have her table overflowing with food and family.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington and other times at the home of Heather and John Stull. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington with Rev. Dr. Bobby Rackley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Spring Hill United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in memory of Carolyn O'Quinn Rice.
