Carol Salmon Obituary

If you ever met her, you will never forget the encounter. After five minutes, you would’ve known her life story, and a story or two about each of her children and grandchildren, plus you would have shared your own. She knew how to ask a question (or three) & she genuinely wanted to get to know you.

Carol Farrell Salmon, age 77, of Broadway, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her! However, we all take comfort in the fact that she is now residing with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven where she is also reunited with our Dad, Bob Salmon, whom she longed to be with.

Mom was an active member of Cresset Baptist Church before moving to Lillington in 1996. Upon moving, she became an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, NC where she quickly felt right at home. Mom loved her classmates of Sunday School, Doers of the Word, and all of her church family. She greatly enjoyed her times with the senior ministry, The Happy Travelers, and was always looking forward to the next great adventure. Mom’s proudest work was staying home to raise her four children, after which she held countless jobs. Mom ended her “working” career when she retired from Central Carolina Bank/Suntrust after many years of service as a teller. After retiring, she rarely sat still and filled her days doing what she loved most, spending time with family and friends. She could often be found with the grandkids, visiting with neighbors or running around town with our aunts, a niece , cousin or one of her many sweet friends. She was passionate about helping the young moms of the Pregnancy Center in Lillington and volunteered weekly for about 5 years only ceasing to serve when the center closed. She was thrilled to often spend time volunteering  with various ministries within the church whenever the need arose. Our Mom LOVED people and interacting with them. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel comfortable around her and in sharing life events. She was genuinely interested in people and their life stories.

Mom, to her kids and their spouses, Maw Maw, to her grandkids and great-grandkids, Aunt Carol, to her nieces and nephews, Carol to her sister and brother-in-law loved her family with all that was in her. Her greatest joy came when gathered with her family. She loved to laugh with and receive hugs from her family and listen to each one as story after story was shared about what was taking place in their life. Mom was also very proud of all of her family and was quick to brag on them to others at every opportunity. She was the life of the party, guaranteeing a zero percent chance that anyone would forget her after the first encounter. She was a fierce cheerleader who stood by her kids, grands, and great-grands through each and every season. She emitted an undeniable love for her crew as we grew in number, that love will remain palpable for the rest of our days on this earth. In short, she was our matriarch, our Mom and Maw Maw, and our friend. This "see you later" will always sting, but we thank our God it is only for now.

Mom was predeceased by Dad, her husband of 50 years, Bob Salmon. Her father Percy Farrell, mother Louise Neal, step-mother Hazel Farrell, brother PC Farrell, Jr, and sister Ethel Hester.

She is survived by her children Bobby Salmon and wife Kim, Darrell Salmon and wife Amanda, William Salmon and wife Angela, Kim Hunter and husband Bill. Also grandchildren Tyler Salmon and wife Jessica, Jordan Salmon and fiancée Sierra Diers, Morgan Pierre and husband Byambison, Jessica McArthur and husband Robert, Marshall Salmon, Dylan Salmon, Will Salmon, Owen Salmon, Eva Salmon, Champ Salmon, Ella Hunter, and William Hunter. Great grandchildren Ozlyn Salmon, Lincoln Salmon, Delsie McArthur, and Rexford McArthur. Also surviving are her sister Shelia Harris and husband CW, many sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, NC. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 17, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM also at Antioch Baptist Church. In celebration of Mom’s colorful personality and love of all things bright, please don’t feel the need to wear black.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 6670 Old US Hwy 421, Lillington, NC 27546 and designated to The Happy Travelers for their next great adventure.
