Carl Temple

Mr. Carl Temple, 71, of Erwin passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn. He was born in Good Hope Hospital, the son of the late Grover and Margaret Johnson Temple. Carl graduated from Lillington High School where he played on the basketball team. He was a member of Neill S. Stewart Lodge #556 A.F. & A.M. where he served as Master of the Lodge for two terms. Carl was a licensed general contractor and licensed electrician. He also worked at Titan Mobile Homes in Lillington, Betsy Johnson Hospital, and retired from Cumberland County Inspections. He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed raising crops and livestock. Carl loved dirt track racing, watching NASCAR, and operating heavy equipment. He was an award-winning pit and barbeque sauce master.

Carl is survived by his wife, Brenda Brafford of the home; son, Walt Temple (Dana) of Erwin, daughter, Nina Temple (Jeremy) of Erwin; stepsons, Robbie Brafford (Maria) of Sanford, Travis Brafford (Stacy) of Sanford; 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Caleb, Rachel, Jaelyn, Colton, Brooklyn, great grandson, Ziago; 2 brothers, Donald Temple (Fran) of Erwin, Miles Temple (Brenda) of Chapel Hill; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 PM Sunday, December 3, 2023 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dan Deaton officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Bunnlevel, with Masonic Rites.
