Carl Lynn Jernigan, 61, of Lillington, passed away at his home Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Born in Erwin to parents Nathan Hugh Jernigan and Zada Faye Jernigan, he lived in Harnett County his entire life. He attended Harnett Central High School, where he graduated 1982, later going on to attend Campbell University and finalizing his education at the Watterson Diesel Institute in Charlotte.
Carl served for 3 years in the Army and National Guard, and received an honorable discharge. For the majority of his life, he worked as a diesel mechanic for Peterbilt and later Gregory Poole. A devout believer in the Lord, he attended Lillington Baptist Church for most of his life where he served his fellowship as a deacon. Later in life, he and his family moved their membership to Pleasant Union Christian Church, where he remained a member until his passing.
Carl is preceded in death by his father Hugh Jernigan, brother-in-law Ricky Mulcahy, uncles Ralph & Truett Jernigan; uncles Buck & Jerry Wood, and Aunt Judy.
He is survived by his wife, Rae; their children, Johnathan, Emily, and Truett; mother Zada Faye Wood Jernigan; sister, Elaine Martin and her husband Willis Martin, Jr.; brother, Timothy H. Jernigan and his wife Kathey B. Jernigan; Zada Marie Mulcahy Moose and her husband Tim Moose; brother-in-law Steve Stephenson and wife Delores; nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Sarah and boyfriend A.J., twins Wesley (wife Lateefah) & Walker (wife Lauren); Becky S. Eubanks and husband Chester, Justin Mulcahy and girlfriend Sydney Prouty, Brian Mulcahy and wife Kodie Mulcahy, Britt Moose and husband Troy Faust, Jordan Booth and husband Anthony Booth, CJ Williams and husband Jackson Williams; along with various great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held 3 PM Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Pleasant Union Christian Church with Dr. Greg Lawson and Dr. Dennis Bazemore officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday at the church for visitation from 2-3 PM.
