Bonnie Jane Stanley

Bonnie Jane Stanley, 64, of Lillington, NC passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at UNC Rex Health Care, Raleigh NC.

Bonnie was born January 6, 1960, in Harnett County to the late Melvin and Margie Stanley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Donnie “Buster” Stanley.

Bonnie is survived by her brothers, Walter Stanley (Liz) and Ray Stanley (Anita) and sister, Carolyn Stanley Cox (James); aunt, Dollie Mason; and many beloved nephews including Richard and Daniel Stanley, Mel Cox; and nieces Jamie Campbell, Katie Knodel, Roni Shoemaker, and Emily Owen, who gave her 17 great nieces and nephews to cherish and love.

She graduated from Harnett Central High School, then went on to graduate from Campbell University. She enjoyed a career teaching Home Economics and later Career Exploration in several North Carolina counties. Bonnie was a member and leader in the North Carolina Family Career and Community Leaders of America. Many of her students earned national and state recognition under her guidance.

Bonnie loved quilting. She was a part of several quilting groups and quilted many quilts for others. She learned to hand quilt from her mother and together they quilted several quilts that are treasured family heirlooms.

In retirement, Bonnie volunteered many hours at her church and the Harnett Food Pantry. She developed a card system that allows patrons and volunteers to expedite services. Presently her system is being adopted by other food pantries all over eastern North Carolina.

The family will receive friends Thursday July 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday July 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel 1310 S. Main Street, Lillington, NC 27546, with Rev. Barrett Payne officiating and burail will follow at Westview Cemetery.
