Betty Jewel Baker Ashworth, 80, of Lillington, passed away, Friday, August 4, 2023 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington, NC.
Betty was born February 2, 1943 in Sampson County, NC to the late Joab and Vida Tart Baker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a homemaker, Master Gardner, and worked many years as a seamstress for Blue Bell, Red Cap and at Fort Bragg as a civil servant in the manufacturing of parachutes. Later she worked at Fairview Greenhouse and for Mr. and Mrs. Allie Collier.
Betty was known throughout the neighborhood as the "flower lady" and most especially "Betty Buttercup" because she delivered everyone she knew bouquets of her hand picked beautiful yellow buttercups.
Betty was loved and will truly be missed by so many. She was such a wonderful, brilliant ray of light to everyone she knew and loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Calvin Ashworth; and son, Calvin Ashworth, Jr.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Vivian Pryor; sister, Faye Arnold; brother, Jerry Baker; and grandchildren, Julia Galvan, Jamey Gilbert, Dylan Pryor, and Lauren Pryor; great grandchildren, Andrew, Keygan, Dominic, and Lori.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Saturday, August 19, 2023 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home, 1310 S. Main St., Lillington, NC 27546.
