Annie Lee Weathers Smith

Annie Lee Weathers Smith, 97, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at home. She was born July 8, 1926, in Columbus County to the late Jesse Eugene Weathers and Essie Lenora Blanchard Weathers. She was a member of Christian Light Church where she joined when she made a profession of faith and was baptized at 13 years of age. She married her husband, Joseph, on November 22, 1945, and they were married 71 years. She lived in Raleigh while her husband obtained a degree at then State College, now NC State University. They moved to Statesville for 38 years where she was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the seed lab at FCX periodically. She became a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Two years into retirement, she returned to her childhood home and rejoined Christian Light Church where she also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Although she was very active In her churches, she was a most beloved mother who instilled the lesson of Christ, as well as one’s need for Christ and his gospel to her children and grandchildren. She rejoiced over family members who have come to Christ and cherished this above all things.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mallie Smith, her son, Ronald Steve Smith, and her brother Jesse Eugene (Gene) Weathers Jr. Annie is survived by her daughter, Judith Smith Hall, and her son-in-law Cress Hall; her daughter, Laurie Smith Perez, her grandchildren, Douglas Smith (Anna), Matthew Hall (Juawana), Rebekah Nickerson (Joey), Philip Perez (Jonah), and Benjamin Perez (Sarah), and her great grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Evan Smith, Caleb Hall, Landon Hall, Abigail Hall, Harper Nickerson, and Nora Nickerson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Christian Light Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Christian Light Church in lieu of flowers.
