Mr. Alex “Pete” James McPherson, 72, of Lillington passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hoke County, the son of the late Moran and Flora Jane McPherson. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, William McPherson, Moran McPherson, Larry McPherson, James McPherson; sisters, Mildred McPherson and Flora Ann McPherson.
Pete worked and retired from Goodyear in Fayetteville after 27 and a half years of service. He was a volunteer and worked with Lillington Parks and Recreation for over 13 years, member of the Lillington Booster Club and Harnett County Board of Elections. Pete was awarded Lillington Man of the Year in 2008 by the Lillington Chamber of Commerce. He loved and was a member of Lillington Baptist Church. Pete was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Pete is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn McPherson of the home; son, James M. McPherson of the home; 2 grandchildren, James D. McPherson, Alexander McPherson; great-grandson, Xaiden “Slim Shady” McPherson; sisters, Elizabeth Solis of Bunnlevel and Sue Willis of Selma; brother, Charles McPherson of Red Springs; several nieces and nephew; all the special friends he met along the way.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Selman officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary Saturday from 10:00-10:45 AM.
In accordance with current North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home requests that everyone in attendance practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
