Mr. William “Billy” Wimberly, 86, of Lillington passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Leo and Maie Wimberly. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by 2 sons, Michael Wade and William Leo Wimberly; son-in-law, Stephen Lynn Mason; 2 brothers, Frank and Jimmy Wimberly; 3 sisters, Martha Vann (Son), Patricia Reeves (LeRoy), and Faye Brantley.

Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a meat cutter with A&P and Kroger for many years. He loved working with his hands, especially lawn mowers and home repairs. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family on golf cart rides. He served as a Deacon and Elder at Summerville Presbyterian Church.

Billy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judy Tingen Wimberly of the home; 2 daughters, Rene Wimberly Mason of Lillington and Mary Susan Wimberly of Lillington; 3 grandchildren, Tyler Mason of Lillington, Jacob Talbot of High Point, Jennifer Grant (Drew) of Boise, ID; sister-in-law, Janice Wimberly of Broadway; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2026, at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Greater Light Baptist Church in Lillington with Pastor James O’Brien officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lillington. The family requests that friends and family attend the visitation or funeral service wear blue jeans. Casual wear is preferred as Billy did not like to dress up.
