Mr. William "Sap" Taylor, 83, of Broadway passed away Friday February 28, 2014 at his home. He was born in Person County, the son of Edna Taylor. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Emma Jean Taylor, daughter, Edna Ruth Taylor and a sister, Ora Mae Williams. He owned and operated Taylor's Grocery in Broadway for several years. Mr. Taylor was very active in the Little Tarheel Baseball League in Sanford. He was elected to the Little Tarheel League Hall of Fame in 1997. Mr. Taylor was also a charter member of the Western Harnett Booster Club and an avid Duke fan.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 3, 2014 at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway with Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Holly Springs Baptist Church Multipurpose Building Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM and other times at his home.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his son, William Russell Taylor and wife Joan of Lillington, son, Edward "Pee Wee" Taylor and wife Donna of Broadway and daughter, Barbara Jean Dickens and husband Alvin of Broadway, 8 grandchildren, William Taylor and wife Saifon, Lee Taylor and wife Debra, Emily Rosser and husband Frank, Sherrie Byrd, Amber Nibe and husband Matt, Amy Kizer and husband Tim, Allison Thomas and husband Paul, Rusty Taylor, 14 great-grandchildren, special cousin, Bettie Mae Lineberry.
Memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church, 385 Holly Springs Ch. Rd, Broadway, NC 27505 or Harnett Co. Department of Aging, Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington, NC 27546.
