William Benjamin Matthews, 89 of Bunnlevel passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 at his residence.

A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Ben and Lillie Matthews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah; an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth; a brother, Frank; and 3 sisters, Mazzie, Maggie and Sarah.

William was a farmer for many years and he retired from the NC Department of Transportation.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Hairs Chapel Church in Linden with Rev. Elmer Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son Tim.

William is survived by his son, Tim Matthews of Bunnlevel; Granddaughters, Ragan Matthews and husband Trey and Courtney Matthews all of Bunnlevel; his faithful and devoted companion Jerline Adams of Bunnlevel; several nieces, nephews, friends and other family members who respected and loved him.
