William Dawson Matthews, 69, of Lillington died Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Central Harnett Hospital.

William was born January 5, 1946 in Harnett Co. to the late Bennie and Lorraine Simms Matthews. William was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bennie Matthews, Jr. and Larry Herbert Matthews.

William retired from the Harnett Co. Maintenance Department. He was a member of Lillington Church of God and loved to fish.

William is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rebecca Matthews; a daughter, Brenda Whipple and husband Shawn of Fuquay-Varina; a son, Ronald Matthews of Lillington; a grand daughter, Samantha Whipple; 3 sisters, Nancy Hughes and husband Willie of Coats, Dorothy Paige and husband Craven of Fayetteville and Lorraine Benson of Lillington; a brother, Frankie Matthews and wife of Coats; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 12th from 2:00-6:00 P.M. at the family home place. A private service and burial will be held.
