Mr. William "Bill" Wood, 81, of Lillington passed away Friday, July 31, 2026, at his home. He was born on December 4, 1944, in Harnett County, the son of the late William Bernice Wood and Frances Watkins Murray.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Edwin Murray; son, Derek Ray Wood; granddaughter, Tabitha Lynn Wood and a sister, Sharon Hamilton Taylor.

Bill was a 60-year member of Local Union 553 (IBEW) International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers at Research Triangle Park. He taught an apprentice class with the Local Union. Bill traveled many places during his career. He enjoyed talking about his trade to Glenda and friends even though it was over their heads. Bill was quite a storyteller and jokester. He would drop what he was doing if anyone needed help. Bill loved tinkering and fixing things. He was a self-taught person who learned many things through the years. Bill was a member of Lillington Baptist Church since the age of 8 years old. He loved the Lord and he never met a stranger.

Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Glenda K. Wood; son, William David Wood; granddaughter, Kelly Dawn Ennis (Blake); brother-in-law, Terry Campbell; 7 great grandchildren; 2 nephews and a niece.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, August 6, 2026, at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 7, 2026, at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Moss, Rev. Paul Fowler and Rev. Mark Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery in Lillington.
