Obituary

Mr. James Walter Bryan, 91, of Raleigh passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was born in Bladen County, the son of the late Neill McKay Bryan and Martha Maultsby Bryan. Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by two brothers, William Murphy Bryan, Neill McKay Bryan and two sisters, Martha Neill Bryan, Sarah Catherine Bryan. He was a graduate of Campbell College in 1941 and Wake Forest University in 1944. Mr. Bryan was a US Army veteran of WWII assigned to the 920 counter intelligence unit in Germany. He held several teaching positions including teacher/counselor at the Methodist Home in Raleigh. Mr. Bryan served as Director of Education and later Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Youth Services for the state of North Carolina.

Graveside service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 3, 2014 at Buies Creek Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Bill Goodnight officiating.

Mr. Bryan is survived by several nieces, nephews and close friends.
