Mrs. Vernelle Coleman Whittington, 94, of Lillington passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Green Leaf Care Center in Lillington. She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Sidney and Pearl Coleman. Vernelle was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Whittington and son, Bobby Whittington. She was an active member of Lillington Baptist Church and served as a Representative for the Senior Tarheel Legislature. Vernelle worked and retired from the Harnett County Department of Aging after many years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. John Rogers and Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30-2:45 PM in the church fellowship hall.

Vernelle is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Tanley of Pleasant View, TN, son, Timothy Whittington of Fresno, CA, 4 grandchildren, Whit Best, Beau Whittington, Josh Whittington and Sarah Whittington, 2 brothers, Wayne Coleman of Greensboro and Charles Coleman of Clayton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lillington Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lillington, NC 27546.
