Johnson
Dec 5, 1936 — Mar 17, 2024
Wilmington, formerly of Lillington
Absent in the Body, Present with the Lord.
This was Sue Jarrett Johnson's favorite Bible verse. Sue J Johnson passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, in Wilmington, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph W. Johnson (B.J.) of Lillington, North Carolina in 2014. Joseph was a Naval Aviator and retired as a Commander. He married the love of his life, Sue Jarrett Johnson in 1956. Sue met B.J. Johnson at the Carolina/Notre Dame Football game in Raleigh, NC in 1955. Their life journey took them to many cities all over the USA.
Born in the beautiful mountains of N.C., Sue Jarrett Johnson was the youngest of 9 born in Nebo, North Carolina. Sue loved her siblings; Ruth, Hoyt, Marie, Guy, Claude, Leo, Estene, and Doug. Sue was the daughter of Gather and Mary Jane Jarrett of Marion, North Carolina. Sue's favorite place was Marion.
Sue Johnson worked for many years at Belks' in Wilmington, N.C. She previously worked at Hess's and Early Printing in Doylestown, P.A. As a teenager she worked at Roses in Marion, N.C. A loving mother and homemaker, Sue enjoyed preparing meals for friends and family during reunions at Ocean Isle Beach for over 20 years. For many years leading up to her passing, Sue spent time with her husband golfing at Beau Rivage in Wilmington. She loved listening to Southern Gospel music and watching gospel programs on TV during her spare time.
Sue was a loving & devoted mother of Gwendolyn O'Connor (Jerry) of Bennington, Vt., Jay Johnson (Susan) of Franklin, Tenn., and Letitia Johnson of Chapel Hill, N.C. In addition, Sue loved her 5 grandchildren, Cory, Jarrett, Dylan, Will, and Chris. Her great-grandson, Gavin, was a gift in her later years. We thank HomeInstead for all their support. Caregivers Kiara and Kathy were a blessing for Sue.
Most of all Sue Jarrett Johnson loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. We love you mom❤️
