MAJ. Steve Shields Retired USAF was born 14 January 1939, Los Angeles, California.   He is survived by his wife Julia Ann Shields of Buies Creek, NC; children Stephen Shields; Michael Shields; Tracy Williams, Lyn Shields, all of California and Liz Epperson of Florida;  stepson, James Harris of Buies Creek; brothers Allen Shields, Craig Shields and Kevin Shields all of Colorado; Kent Shields of Nevada; and eleven grandchildren. Steve graduated from high school in Massena, Iowa and attended Iowa State College; Steve was in the Air Force from 1960 through 1980.  During that time, he served as an Electronic Warfare Officer on a B-52 Crew and as a Weapons System Officer in the F4 Fighter.  He had a combat tour in Vietnam, spent several years in Europe and then served a tour at the Pentagon before retiring.  Awards and Decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star.   Steve's hobbies included Amateur Radio, Genealogy, and Coin Collecting.  He also enjoyed traveling the country in his RV.

A Visitation will be held at O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, June 17 from 6-8 pm.
