Mr. Sherrill Lee Champion, 74, of Lillington passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Lacy Brantley Champion and Doris Lee Raynor Champion. In addition to his parents, Sherrill was preceded in death by brother, Earl Champion, sister-in-law, Gail Champion and brother-in-law, Kent Johnson.

Sherrill loved surf fishing, NASCAR racing, Duke basketball, watching his wrestling and dancing with Gloria. He worked for over 50 years in the grocery store industry. Sherrill retired from Food Lion in Lillington as a produce manager.

Sherrill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria Larue Champion of the home; 2 daughters, Lorrie Sessoms of Lillington and Lisa Tart of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren, Amber Barbour (Marc), Ashley Jernigan Boyd (Matt), and Chance Tart; great grandchildren, Peyton Barbour, Jewel Barbour, Bryson Barbour, and Riley Barbour; brother, Jimmy Champion of Lillington and sister, Diane Davis (Steve) of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Jenny Champion of Lillington, brother-in-law, Dale Johnson (Tammy) of Dunn, brother-in-law, Ricky Johnson(Kathy) of Benson, sister-in-law Wanda Johnson of Dunn, sister-in-law Brenda Johnson of Lillington, Sister-in-law, Dawn Bennett(Bobby) of Dunn and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 6, 2026, at Westview Cemetery in Lillington. The family will receive friends following the service.
