Obituary

Sandra Mae Byrd Dickens, 66, of Lillington died peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Wake Med Raleigh Hospital.

Sandra was born September 18, 1948 in Lee Co. to the late Elbert Lee and Lula Mae Campbell Byrd.

Sandra worked at the Department of Social Services for 32 years. She accepted Christ as a teenager and attended church all her life. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Broadway. She had a knack for painting, organizing events and arts and crafts. Her family was the light of her life. She was a very selfless person with a servant's heart who dedicated her life to her family and others. She had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Welborn and Rev. Michael McAuley officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Baptist Church Cemetery, Broadway. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family asks everyone to please wear something purple to her service.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 44 years, Johnny Gene Dickens of Lillington; a daughter, Nicole Singletary and husband Mike of Holly Springs; a son, Justin Dickens and girlfriend Linsey Mason of Lillington; a brother, Jimmy Byrd of Sanford and his friend Elizabeth Moore of Moore Co.; and a special grand dog, Ellie.
