Obituary

Mr. Roger Wayne Jackson, 71, of Lillington passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021. He was born in Lee County, the son of the late James William Jackson Jr. and Christine Smith Jackson. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, James Ronald "Ronnie" Jackson and sister-in-law, Sue Gilmore Jackson. Roger grew up in Deep River, NC and graduated from Deep River High School. He played, coached, and sponsored many sports throughout Lee and Harnett Counties. Roger spent his life as a faithful member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, where he served in various capacities. He loved to travel, play golf, fish, and watch ballgames and Westerns. For over 40 years, he owned and operated Jackson Well Drilling, serving Harnett and surrounding counties. He was well known for his honesty, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. It was said by a special friend that even at his passing, Roger continued to help others as he was an organ donor. He was a devoted family man who loved his wife and girls more than life itself, and he was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Roger is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cathy Stewart Jackson of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Jackson Chance and husband Landy of Sanford, Dr. Christina Jackson Womble of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Robin Jackson Wilder, and husband Scott of Sanford; uncle, John Jackson and wife Barbara of Sanford; aunts, Dorothy "Dot" Stanley and Barbara Jackson both of Sanford; many sisters and brothers-in-law and many "favorite" nieces and nephews. He was also special "Papi" to Ryan, Eli and Matthew Monteleone.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, October 27 at the church with Pastors Dr. Bobby and Amanda Rackley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
