Devoted husband, father, mentor and friend; Robert Reed Swope, 93, of Hampstead, NC passed away Wednesday morning after a short and sudden illness.

Born July 2, 1921 in Newport, KY, Robert built a life and family on Christian values and hard work. Robert was a World War II veteran and had a long career as an Electrical Engineer with General Electric and Westinghouse. He had a lifelong passion for crossword puzzles, which continued up until his death. Robert was an active member of Blake's Chapel Advent Christian Church in Hampstead where he leaves behind many friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Alvera Marie Swope and his eldest daughter Sharon Ann Bies. For the final 12 years of his life after Alvera's death, Robert was blessed with his best friend and loving companion Bertie Lookabaugh to whom his family is eternally grateful. Robert is survived by his daughters Linda Siegert and Jackie Fugich as well as his sons Gregory Swope and Christopher Swope. He has 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Robert's final weeks were spent living with his daughter Linda at her home in Lillington, NC.
He will be cremated at the O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington and memorialized in a private service.
