Obituary

Robert G. "Bob" Salmon, age 73, of Lillington passed away suddenly on Sunday August 22, 2010. He was born March 24, 1937, the son of the late William Henry and Ella Godwin Moore Salmon.

Bob was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, NC and had a special bond with the Fisherman's Sunday school class. He was a longtime member of Cresset Baptist Church in Durham, NC. Bob graduated from Lillington High School and was a US Army veteran having served as a paratrooper. He worked for Rigsbee Tire Sales for over 29 years and enjoyed continuing his career as a real estate broker with Hamilton Real Estate Services upon returning home to Lillington in 1998. Bob enjoyed spending time outdoors working around the homeplace or fishing at the coast. Bob was also extremely active in the communities in which he lived and believed in giving back and passed this on to his children. He was a former member of the Jaycees and the North State Sertoma Club of Durham. He was also an active member of the Lillington Kiwanis Club. Bob leaves a great legacy of love for his family. Pa Pa was never happier than when he was surrounded by his large family.

Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years Carol Farrell Salmon, Son Robert G. "Bobby" Salmon, Jr., wife Kim and children Tyler, Jordan, and Morgan of Durham. Son Darrell W. Salmon, wife Amanda and children Jessica, Marshall, and Dylan of Lillington. Son William F. Salmon, wife Angela and children Will, Owen, Eva, and Champ of Raleigh. Kim S. Hunter, husband Bill and children Ella and William of Wilmington. His siblings Ruby Carrington, Daisy Sigler, Paul Salmon, Jeff Salmon, Iris Pendergrass, and Grace Freeman. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 20 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. V. Martin Groover and Dr. Ned L. Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 6-8:30 PM at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life, c/o Nancy Wright, 309 W. Cornelius Harnett Blvd. Lillington NC 27546. As a cancer survivor he was passionate about a cure.
