Robbie
Rook
Nov 8, 1961 — Apr 25, 2022
Mrs. Robbie Rook, 60, of Lillington passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was born in Great Falls, MT, the daughter of the late Grady and Effie Gates. In addition to her parents, Robbie was preceded in death by her daughter, Sara Rook.
Robbie was born in Great Falls, Montana due to her father being in the Air Force. Having a mother from Newfoundland and a father from south Alabama made for an interesting family dynamic. Robbie learned from an early age to seamlessly transition between these very different cultures.
The family settled in Demopolis, Alabama where Robbie graduated High School and then started college in Livingston, Alabama at Livingston University. Robbie's love of photography got her a scholarship at Livingston where she photographed the football and basketball games for the University. Much of her work made its way into newspapers and the University's yearbook.
While attending Livingston University, Robbie met her soon to be husband. Once married, she completely devoted her life to her family. Being part of a military family was not easy, but Robbie made the most of every moment with her three children and her husband. Multiple deployments were a challenge, but Robbie took all of it in stride and the Rook Family flourished.
Robbie and John were married 39 years before her untimely death. Her love of family was her cornerstone and she showed that love until the very end.
Robbie had a love of all animals and would open her home and heart to all types. She was known as not being able to turn her back on any furry friend in need.
Robbie is survived by her husband, John Rook, Jr. of the home; daughter, Jessica Rook of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; son John Rook, III of Charlotte; grandson, Holden Ackerman, and granddaughter, Hailynne Ackerman; 3 brothers, Rick Gates, Roger Gates, Ronald Gates; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a casual memorial on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holly's Nest Animal Rescue at www.hollysnest.org. 919-499-7006/919-499-7776.
