Rita Kay Byrd, 73, of Lillington, passed away, Sunday, November 27, 2022 at UNC Hospice in Pittsboro, NC.

Rita was born August 9, 1949 in Lee County, NC to the late Walter and Virginia Matthews.  She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Lee Matthews, and Don Averitt Matthews; and sister, Vicky Matthews.

Rita is survived by her husband, Derrick Byrd; daughters, Raquel Jackson and husband Gary; Christy Patterson and husband, Curtis; grandchildren, Jordan Angelo, Cody Jackson, Kendall Jackson, and great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Angelo.

A funeral service will be held 11am Friday, December 2, 2022 at Antioch Baptist Church, 6670 Old US Hwy 421, Lillington, NC 27546.  Burial will follow the service at Harnett Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 10am – 11am at the church.
