Rev. Robert Worth West, 86, of Raleigh died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Jacob A. and Amanda Green West. Rev. West was a US Marine Corps WWII veteran and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Bragg. After retiring from Civil Service, he became an ordained minister and served local churches for 20 years. Rev. West was the pastor of Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church in Angier for over 12 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Glover West, four brothers and three sisters. He was a devoted husband, Daddy, PaPa, Uncle Robert and friend to all who knew him.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Friendship Baptist Church in Angier with Rev. Doug Anders and (Ret.) Major Gen. Randall West US Marine Corps officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Gardens in Lillington. The family will receive friends Monday evening at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home from 6:00-9:00 PM.
Rev. West is survived by his wife, Alicia Stephenson West of the home, daughters, Betty Spence and husband Philip of Lillington and Barbara Starr and husband Bob of Sneads Ferry, grandchildren, Marjorie Benson and husband Danny, Alison Plumley and husband Tony, Robby Starr and wife Mandy, Erin Lis and husband Dennis, ten great-grandchildren, great-great-grandson, brother, Willard West of Sanford, sister, Amanda Lucille Taylor of Mt. Olive and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 133 Tranquil Lane, Willow Spring, NC 27592 or to the charity of one's choice.
