Rebecca Bryant Maness, 89 of Buies Creek died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Harnett Woods Nursing home and Rehab.

Rebecca was born in Montgomery County to the late Neill and Maggie Maness. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Louise West and Frances Maness, and a brother Wade Maness.

Rebecca started her degree in Elementary Education at Campbell College and went on to finish it at Meredith College. After teaching for several years, she became the Director of Christian Education at Oxford Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. She then came to Campbell University where she served as Dean of Women. She returned to teaching and retired as a home bound teacher for Harnett County Schools.

Rebecca was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she served as a deacon and choir member. She was a leader in her community in meeting the needs of her family and friends . In 2004 Rebecca was presented the Campbell Alumni Service Award.

She is survived by 3 sisters, Edna Earle Maness of Buies Creek, Irene Maness Williamson of Clinton and Nell Maness Butler of Rose Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at her home from 6-8 pm Friday, January 25, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held 2pm Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Memorial Baptist Church, with Dr. David Whiteman and Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Harnett Memorial Park.
