Otho Chester Snipes, 86 of Fuquay-Varina died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at RexHealth Care in Raleigh.

A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Otha Jay and Ozell Davis Snipes and was preceded in death by an infant sister, Doris Snipes, and in 2005 by a brother, Russell Gaither Snipes.

Mr. Snipes graduated from Fuquay Springs High School and served 17 months in the United States Navy. Following his time in the military, he attended and graduated from NC State College (now NC State University) with a degree in Agriculture and a minor in Horticulture. Mr. Snipes was a lifelong farmer in the Fuquay-Varina area. He was a member, former deacon and church treasurer of Rawls Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M.  Monday, August 19, 2013 at  Rawls Baptist Church, Fuquay-Varina with Rev. Clarence Hardison, Jr. officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday at Rawls Baptist Church, other times at his home.    Â

Mr. Snipes is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosalyn Smith Snipes. Daughters, Betsy Snipes Griswold and Diane Leigh Snipes. Grandchildren, Paul V. Griswold IV and Lauren Elizabeth Griswold. Several nieces and nephews and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rawls Baptist Church Building Fund, 10665 US 401 North, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
