Obituary

With his mission on this earth completed, God called home Neill McKay Salmon, Jr. of Lillington on June 4, 2015. He was born June 25, 1935, the only child of Anne Thompson Salmon and Neill McKay Salmon, Sr.

He attended school in Lillington before graduating from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia. Upon graduation he attended the University of North Carolina before transferring to North Carolina State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Before his graduation he was employed in various capacities on a part-time basis by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. After his graduation he became a full-time bridge design engineer with the department. He later progressed to Project Engineer and later became an Assistant State Bridge Design Engineer before his retirement in 1998.

He served six years in the Air National Guard during the late 1950's and early 1960's. During this time he met and married Evelyn Marie Bryant on June 11, 1961. They shared almost 54 wonderful years of marriage. The highlight of their marriage was the birth of their only child, Stephanie Anne, on December 8, 1964.

Neill was a member of Lillington Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and later as an elder. His grandmother, Mary Louise Salmon, was one of eight ladies who pledged their resources to see the building of this church.

His love of family was so important to him. He was the ultimate provider and kind husband and father. His wife and daughter are grateful for the many wonderful years they shared together.

In the last few months of declining health, he was blessed with wonderful caregivers. His family wishes to thank Tara, Ann, Jane, Susan, and Stephen for their help during this time. Uplifted by their actions and a loving church and community, the transition was made less painful.

Neill is survived by his wife and daughter and numerous cousins.
