MSG Jimmy Baxter Brown died peacefully at JA Haley Veterans Hospital on August 13, 2015 in Tampa, Florida at the age of 77.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Betty; two children: Jimmie Lynn Brown Linkston of Tasmania, Australia and James Baxter Brown of Palm Harbor, Florida; seven grandchildren: Jordan Linkston Cheney, Logan Grace Linkston, Ryan-Marie Linkston, Evan-Joy Linkston, Cooper Langdon Linkston, Caanan James Brown and Sara Parker Brown. Also surviving are sisters Ora Brown Clayton and Mona Brown McNeill and brothers Elton Eustace Brown, Jerry Monroe Brown and Royce Brown.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, James Henderson Brown and Nellie Holder Brown; brothers Edmond Brown and Ferrell Brown; sisters Jean Brown Nunnery and Delsie Brown McArthur.

Born on April 27, 1938 in Harnett County, North Carolina, Jimmy was a decorated Army veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne and Special Forces, Green Beret. Assignments included Ft. Bragg, Okinawa and two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the army in 1975 at Ft. Bragg Army Base. Among his many accommodations were two Bronze Stars, Army Commendation with Valor, Army Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster, two Air Medals, Combat Infantry Badge and numerous other unit citations.

Interests and hobbies were many and included a love to hunt, fish and garden whether he was in North Carolina or Florida. He was particularly passionate and proud of his success growing tomatoes and many vegetables in Florida which were no easy task. He was very generous in sharing his provisions with friends and neighbors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who believed in hard work. Jimmy was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Association and the Gulf Harbors Fishing Club at New Port Richey.

A "Celebration of Life" is scheduled at the home of Jimmy and Betty Brown on Sunday, August 23 from 4:00-6:00. A full military funeral with honors is scheduled for Saturday, August 29 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, North Carolina at 4:00 pm with a reception following. Family will accept friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jimmy's life.
