Obituary

Paul Jarrell., 84, of Charlotte, NC, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. He passed peacefully in his home with children at his side. A son of the late James Thomas and Irene Shearing Register Jarrell, he was born in Warrenton, NC on May 20, 1927. He grew up on a small farm in Harnett County, NC, where he met and married his one and only sweetheart, Marjorie Elaine Dixon in 1944. He worked briefly in road construction before enlisting in the U.S. Army. During WW2 and the Korean War, he received medals for National Service, Good Conduct, European Occupation, and The Presidential Unit Citation. Paul also received Battle stars, Bronze stars and a Silver Star for combat in Korea. After the Army, he pursued a career in the grocery industry, relocating to Asheville, NC in 1956 and was transferred to Charlotte, NC in 1966. He will be remembered by all for his love of his family, his love of birds, his wonderful sense of humor and warm and friendly smile. He was preceded in death by Marjorie, his wife of 64 years.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Elaine Hamilton and son-in-law David of Concord, NC; Stephanie E. Wallace and son-in-law Michael of Harrisburg, NC. Sons: Paul Y. Jarrell and daughter-in-law Cathy of Richmond, VA; Dennis M. Jarrell of Charlotte;
Twin brother: Lloyd Jarrell and sister-in- law Peggy of Lillington, NC; Sisters, Inez Merritt of Durham, Mary L. Hoffman of Sterling Heights, Mi., Irene Coggins and brother-in-law James D. Coggins of Roanoke Rapids. Paul and Marjorie had 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday,March 10, 2012 at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel with Rev. Roy McLamb officiating. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
