Obituary

Mr. L. Perry Cameron, age 94, of Sanford died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at his home. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Lee and Effie McKay Cameron. He became a member of Barbecue Church in 1924 at the age of nine. Mr. Cameron was very active over the years, serving as Deacon, Elder, and Treasurer of the Sunday School and Church. He was elected Elder Emeritus on October 20, 1992 and remembered when the church was one large room for both Sunday School and worship. Mr. Cameron helped build six classrooms, the fellowship hall, kitchen and the manse. He is one of only two men to receive the Honorary Life Membership from the Presbyterian Women. Mr. Cameron was charter member of the Benhaven Ruritan Club. He was a farmer who loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and making wine. Mr. Cameron was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Cameron.

Graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, November 3, 2009 10:00 AM at Barbecue Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sanford with Rev. Sandy Williams officiating.

He is survived by son, Don Cameron and wife Wanda of Sanford, granddaughter,2 Great-grandchildren, sister, Jackie Hinesley of Archdale, NC, and his special furry friend, Alberta.
