Mrs. Mazelle Mangum Stephenson, 84, of Lillington passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016. She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Rufus and Mavie Mangum. Mazelle worked as an administrative assistant with the local Farm Bureau Insurance Agency in Lillington. Mazelle retired from Harnett County Department of Social Services with over 20 years of service. She was instrumental in forming the Fraud Division of the Harnett County Department of Social Services. Mazelle was a founding member of the Friendly Home Demonstration Club in the 1960's. She was also a member of the Lillington High School PTA, Harnett Democratic Club and North Carolina State Democratic Club. Mazelle was lifetime member of Pleasant Union Christian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Stephenson and brother, Calvin Mangum.

Mazelle is survived by her son, Michael Stephenson of Garner; daughter, Pamela Stephenson Keller and husband, Matthew of Daniel Island, SC; 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Morgan, Deirdre and Evans; 2 great-grandchildren, A.J. and Cleo Marie; 2 sisters, Agnes Austin of Angier and Rosa Lasater of Lillington; sister-in-law, Edith Ann Mangum of Lillington; several nieces and nephews

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 AM Monday, December 19, 2016 at Pleasant Union Christian Church in Lillington with Dr. Greg Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Sunday from 3:00-5:00 PM.
