Maxine Cone
Senter
Sep 2, 1928 — Jun 4, 2013
Maxine Cone Senter passed away peacefully with her loving family surrounding her on June 3, 2013 in Cary, North Carolina. She was 84 years old.
Mrs. Senter was born September 2, 1928 on a farm in Nash County, NC. A graduate of Spring Hope High School, she attended Woman's College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro). On Valentine's Day 1949, she married Meredith Senter. For almost 50 years, they made their home in Lillington, NC, where Mrs. Senter raised three sons. After her husband's death, she moved to Raleigh, NC.
Mrs. Senter loved church, travelling, swimming and playing bridge. She was a member of the Lillington Baptist Church, the Figure Eight Island Church and the Ridge Road Baptist Church in Raleigh. She traveled relentlessly and was proud to have been to all fifty states as well as abroad. But she was just as happy to spend time at her house on Figure Eight Island where she would always be the first to spot a sand dollar on the beach, enthusiastically participated in water aerobics classes and would swim the channel behind her house. There was nothing she enjoyed, however, more than playing bridge - she was known for bidding boldly and smart play of the cards.
Mrs. Senter is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law and four grandchildren, Meredith Jr., Susan and Brandon of Arlington, Virginia: Michael and Nancy of Cary; and Max, Elisabeth, Katharine, Kenan and Mathilde of Wellesley, Massachusetts; one sister, Faye Swofford of Bluffton, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Bettye Senter of Raleigh and Gladys Cone of Spring Hope; eight nieces and nephews, and many other family members.
Mrs. Senter was preceded in death by her husband, Meredith S. Senter; her parents, Braxton and Virginia Cone; her brothers, Bourbon Cone and John Cone and her sister, Ann Cone Turner.
A memorial service will be held June 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Lillington Baptist Church, 210 W. Lofton Street, Lillington, NC, with luncheon immediately following the service.
The family wishes to thank the management and staff at the Verra Springs and Arboretum units at Woodland Terrace in Cary for their gracious care of Mrs. Senter during the past few years. The family would also like to express their unending gratitude to Brenda Mullins for her loving care of Mrs. Senter.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607, www.hospiceofwake.org, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612, www.alz.org.
