Obituary

Max Emmett Callahan, 85, of Buies Creek went home to his Savior early Monday morning, June 22, 2015.

Born and raised in Cleveland County, Max served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, graduated from Wake Forest University and received his Master's from UNC-Greensboro. He taught Chemistry and Physics at East Forsyth High School, served as President of the NCAE, and was a science consultant for Holt, Rhinehart and Winston publishing company before becoming their sales representative for many years. He earned numerous sales awards including national salesman of the year for them. Max was an avid golfer and loving family man but his true passion was his church. He was a founding member of Grace Community Church in Angier, he served on numerous committees and in numerous roles including several years as an elder. As a Watchcare Parent for Campbell University students, he and his high school sweetheart bride of 65 years developed numerous relationships and provided their house as a home away from home.

Max is survived by his wife, Norma, of Buies Creek; a son, Marc Stephen Callahan and his wife, Dail of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Marsha Callahan Long and her husband, Bob of Angier; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington on Wednesday evening 6:00-8:00 P.M.. Funeral services will be held at Grace Community Church in Angier on Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Brad Talley officiating. Graveside service will be held immediately following at Buies Creek Cemetary in Buies Creek.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Community Church Building Fund, PO Box 1505, Angier NC 27501.
