Mary Latham Foster Waters, 65, of Sanford died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Duke University Hospital.

Mary Latham was born in Rocky Mount NC and grew up in Plymouth. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Brinkley Foster.

A graduate of East Carolina University, she received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Arts Education. She was a retired Lee Co. public school art teacher. She was a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, for leading women educators. She was also involved in many community art programs including, Lee Co. Arts Council. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sanford, and most recently attended Lillington Presbyterian.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Lillington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall and all other times at the home.

Mary Latham is survived by her husband of 40 years Don Waters of the home; daughter, Rebekah Waters Brewer and husband Joseph of Sanford; son, Jason Waters and wife Andrea of Sanford; step-son, Marshall Nathan Waters and wife Lucretia of Stillwater, OK; sister, Emily Foster Lucas and husband Manly of Sanford; brother, Joseph Weldon Foster, Jr. and wife Marlene of Carbonton; brother-in-law, Harold Waters and wife Mary Latham Mizelle of Plymouth; sister-in-law, June Waters of Dunn; four grandchildren, Addie Mejia, Thomas Mejia, Caleb Waters and Luke Waters; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Duke Children's Hospital and Health Center, 2301 Erwin Road, Durham NC 27710; Lillington Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 245, Lillington NC 27546A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Lillington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall and all other times at the home.
