Mrs. Martha Poe Hobson Purdie, 74, of Lillington died Monday, September 16, 2013 at her home.
She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Richard Henry and Martha Mae Bowles Poe. Martha was preceded in death by her husbands, Delbert Hobson and David Purdie, 2 brothers, Sam Poe and Billy Poe.
Martha was an active member of Lillington Presbyterian Church for many years where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School and Bible studies. She was an active member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #243 serving in many stations. Martha retired from the Harnett County Board of Education after 30 years of service as a Bookkeeper. She served the Lord and raised her family to do the same.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Lillington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will take place at Harnett Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail Hobson Shuford and husband Jody of Boone, Debra Hobson Taylor and husband Lee of Lillington, 3 grandchildren, Christopher Norris of Lillington, Taylor Shuford of Boone and Chase Taylor of Lillington, 2 sisters, Catherine Railey and husband Ronnie of Atlanta, GA and Flora Perry and husband Luke of Sanford, 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette Poe of Sanford and Olive Herring of Dunn, a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lillington Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 245, Lillington, NC 27546; Grand Chapter Of NC, OES, PO Box 4730, Wilmington, NC 28406 (include on remarks line- Scholarship Fund, Martha Purdie) or the Harnett Co. Food Pantry, PO Box 2084, Lillington, NC 27546.
