Miss Margaret Reid Smith, 94, of Kipling died June 14, 2011 at Wake Medical Center in Cary after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late Reid and Maggie Senter Smith. She was born in Kipling in Harnett County on December 17, 1916. She was a beloved sister, aunt and friend.
She graduated from LaFayette High School in 1934 and went on to graduate from Elon College in 1938. After graduation she taught in the Harnett County School System for five years. During the war she went to work with the US government at Arlington, VA and Fort Bragg, NC for three years. She later went to work for the US Department of Army at Fort Bragg, where she retired in 1988 after 42 years of service. She was a life-long member of Kipling United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities and as treasurer for 27 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Howard C. Smith and Hoke Smith.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at Kipling United Methodist Church. Service officials will be the Rev. Melinda Ivey and the Rev. Sam Fisher. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery in Kipling.
A visitation will be held in the Kipling Community Building on Friday from 10-11 a.m. Floral arrangements are by Jeffreys of Dunn, 910-891-7000.

Survivors include brothers, Robert Lee Smith and wife Rose of Wilmington; Dayton Smith of Kipling; sister, Helen S. Fisher of Liberty, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
